Kids developing faster?

Kids developing faster (All Headline News):

Child development experts say physical and behavioral changes that would have been typical of teenagers years ago are now common in kids ages 8 to 12, known as “tweens.”

Parents report that some of them are going on “dates” and are asking for such high-price items as cell phones and iPods. They listen to pop music which is often sexually charged, play mature rated video games and log numerous hours on Web sites such as MySpace. Young girls are wearing makeup younger and clothes that some consider inappropriate.

Would you like your children to “mature” this fast?

Can it be helped? I think it can be helped, by limiting (or even, completely eliminating) your children’s exposure to the obnoxious material that is propagated by the mainstream media, until you are confident that they can think properly for themselves. Because I think that’s where most of the filth comes from.

What’s your opinion?

This is so sad and disturbing :(

    Excerpt:

Physically, they’re adults, but cognitively, they’re children,” says Alderman, the physician in New York. She’s found that cultural influences have affected her own children, too.

Earlier this year, her 12-year-old son heard the popular pop song “Promiscuous” and asked her what the word meant.

“I mean, it’s OK to have that conversation, but when it’s constantly playing, it normalizes it,” Alderman says.
