Shhh, secret delivery.

UPDATE: Patched source now available.
UPDATE: An Ubuntu Gutsy version is now available.

last-exit_5

Oh. My. God.

If my senses serve me well, I have just successfully compiled Last Exit version 5 with the ’save patch’. Even got it nicely wrapped in a .deb (Ubuntu/Debian) package. If my senses serve me well.

Things to take note:

  • I didn’t create Last Exit. (OK, duh.)
  • I didn’t create the ’save patch’; I merely integrated it with the latest version of Last Exit, version 5 as of now. You can find it here.
  • Experience: ‘Save’ feature does not work if the save location is a FAT32 partition. Solution: choose your ext3 partition.
  • Experience: Playback sometimes stalls, but I don’t know if it is because of the software itself, or just good ol’ network lag.
  • The package was rudimentarily built using checkinstall, with dashes of some brute-force methods to eliminate some seemingly harmless nags. I don’t know how to factor in dependencies into the package, so you’ll have to figure out that bit (if you face problems). Generally, I think you would have no problems if you can install the original, unpatched version.
  • Use this package at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage caused by your use of this package.

Finally, be aware of local laws on downloading music files. My stand is, if it is OK to record songs from FM radio on a cassette tape, this should be okay too. Be responsible, and support your favourite artists when you can.

That said,

Download: last-exit_5-1savepatch_i386.deb (.deb package, 140kB)

And please let me know how it turns out :)

P.s. If you love this package, please consider donating to my PayPal account. Thanks :)

Thanks so much for this; it’s more stable than even Ubuntu’s package :D

Hi, I installed it and it does not appear in the menu. Do you know what could be wrong over here?

If you can, can you please reply in the How to thread at ubuntuforums.org. Thanks.

Dunno,it didn’t work out for me.Xterm told me to install libsexy but since it’s a development package installing many other things as reda_ea advised,I installed Nubbie’s package with the save patch on version 4 and it worked out fine. Please refer the thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=213185&page=22 for details.

  9. reda_ea said that he has already packaged a patched version 5 that does not require libsexy-dev. Perhaps you’d like to search posts under his name at ubuntuforums.org for it.
