The safest route

You are about to cross a wide, busy road, and have three options: jaywalking, using the traffic light crossing, and using the overhead bridge.

Jaywalking is obviously most risky, even if one can dash fast, for there can be human error in estimating the rate of approach of fast-moving vehicles; and it is, after all, a wide, busy road.

Using the traffic light is not without risk; there are vehicles who who beat the red light, and vehicle-pedestrian accidents are known to happen even at traffic light or zebra crossings.

We are left with using the overhead bridge as the safest option. What happens is that the overhead bridge takes one to a higher level where vehicles do not pass at all, hence reducing to zero the possibility of getting into an accident.

A drawback of using the overhead bridge is that one must sacrifice more time and energy to elevate oneself to the higher level. Not many people like the overhead bridge. It can be tiresome, and not everyone is prepared to exercise the discipline and patience to use it.

In the scenario above, however, I would still choose the overhead bridge. I prefer to choose a zero chance of accidents, especially when I can.

Sometimes, it even seems foolish to settle for a lesser alternative.

I’d choose the overhead bridge any day. I’m very paranoid about crossing the road. I literally get goosebumps and I always utter the kalimah shahadah before I have to cross a road, in case I die. I know it sounds excessive…but crossing the road is one of my greatest fears. :(
