Last Exit 5 patched for Ubuntu Gutsy

UPDATE: Patched source now available.

I have compiled the patched version of Last-Exit 5 under Ubuntu Gutsy and created a Ubuntu/Debian package for it. The patched version allows you to save the currently playing song to an ext3 partition.

If this is your first time trying the patched version of Last Exit, please read the notes from my previous announcement first.

Additional notes:

  • From the previous version, some users have reported that libsexy-dev needs to be installed (”sudo aptitude libsexy-dev”). If this package doesn’t work for you, that is something you can try. I missed this out maybe because libsexy-dev has always been in my Ubuntu installation.
  • Install jackd (”sudo aptitude install jackd”). I am not sure why, but without it, there are messages saying “sh: jackd not found”. Perhaps because GStreamer in Gutsy makes use of it.
  • The first song usually cannot be played, for unknown reasons. Clicking ‘Next’ doesn’t help. Instead, just stop playback, and click ‘Play’ again for the next song, which usually plays OK.
  • Ubuntu Gutsy is currently under testing, so, there may be bugs within itself. This may affect the performance of Last Exit.

That said, somebody slap me for doing all this instead of studying and doing my tutorials :P

    hi,
    thanks for packaging this version

actually you don’t need to install libsexy-dev in order to use it
it just cant find the libsexy.so file so a first fix would simply be
    sudo ln /usr/lib/libsexy.so.2 /usr/lib/libsexy.so
I’ll see if theres a better fix

I repackaged you deb with correct dependencies and file locations (folowing the ubuntu conventions), I’ll be putting the new deb in the ubuntuforums thread (i’m the original poster) as soon as I can.

    Thanks

In fact last-fm protocol have a bit changed, that’s why it’s not working perfectly at the moment. I hope the dev will managed that quickly.

  9. Try enabling the universe and multiverse repositories and install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse.

    sudo aptitude install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse

I got this tip from here, but have yet to try it out.

    Hope that helps :)
