When I first read about the soldier who managed to bring a SAR21 to Orchard Road, I thought, “Cool.” I mean, how often do we get news as interesting as that? So much for all the expensive advertisements boasting of a skilled and disciplined fighting force; even a whole rifle can be brought out of camp.
That soldier must have a lot of creativity to do that. I myself can’t even even imagine myself bringing a firearm out of camp. (I am that indoctrinated.) It’s not like, “Oops, I have an empty round which got stuck in the grooves of my boot when I came back from range… Sorry, Sergeant!” Instead, this is some wholesome deliberated, premeditated action.
After his jail term and the canings, I imagine that this guy can boast to his children and grandchildren, “In 2007, during my NS, Ah Pa carried a SAR21 to Orchard Road. You know what SAR21 is? It’s an ancient type of gun, nothing like the laser guns they use now. That time damn sian lah. So I decided to bring the gun home to play lor. Actually ah, wanted to bring the grenade launcher also, but, aiyah wasted, my bag no space…” and so forth.
In short, funky.
We should be thankful that we got such an interesting piece of news. It stimulates the mind and imagination. Better read that than this web site. I mean, my actual, initial intention of writing this entry was just to say how freaking tired I am, and that I’m going to sleep now.
