Using the Apple Remote Control with Last.fm

UPDATE: This has been tested to work only on Mac OS X Tiger.

Last.fm with Apple Remote Control

Follow these steps to be able to control the official Last.fm player on your Mac with your Apple Remote Control.

Requirements:

  • Proxi, a program by Griffin Technology that allows you to perform custom actions with your Remote Control
  • The official Last.fm player

Steps:

  1. Download this Proxi blueprint file to your computer: LastFmRemote.proxibp
  2. Open the Proxi Editor.
    Proxi Editor
  3. Drag the Proxi blueprint file into the Triggers pane.
Proxi Editor with new blueprint Proxi Editor showing blueprint details

You’re done! While the Last.fm window is in focus, you can use your Apple Remote Control as follows:

Enjoy!

  1. I followed the instructions above (thankyou for the effort you put into this, by the way) but can’t get it working.

The apple remote is still behaving as normal - it’s like Proxi isn’t receiving clicks. I’ve upgraded to Leopard and got the most recent version of Proxi. Have you had any problems with this and Leopard? Do Proxi or the blueprint need to be “activated” (other than ticking the box next to the blueprint)?

I’ve tried lots of things and can’t get anything but the default behaviour out of the remote - I think it’s just me being a simpleton though :)

  2. I haven’t upgraded to Leopard, so I cannot say for sure what is wrong.

    But here are my guesses:

    1) Is the Last.fm window in focus? This trick only works if the Last.fm window is in focus.

    2) I have uninstalled Proxi for quite some time, since I got bored of this ‘trick’. Perhaps the latest version of Proxi isn’t working as it should.

    Hope this helps :)

  4. I’m sorry, all, I don’t have Leopard to try this out. I’m going to put a notice up there that this only works for Tiger.
