A directionless entry (thanks, insomnia!)

I haven’t been (deliberately) playing my music collection since the start of this month, but here are some song lyrics that keep replaying in my mind of late:

Third Eye Blind - Background [listen]

The plans I make still have you in them
‘Cause you come swimmin’ into view
And I’m hanging on your words like I always used to do
The words they use so lightly, I only feel for you
I only know because I carry you around
In the background

‘Cause I felt you long after we were through

Third Eye Blind - Motorcycle Drive By [listen]

Visions of you on a motorcycle drive by
The cigarette ash flies in your eyes and you don’t mind
You smile
And say the world it doesn’t fit with you
I don’t believe you
You’re so serene
Careening through the universe
Your axis on a tilt
You’re guiltless and free
I hope you take a piece of me with you

And there’s things I’d like to do
That you don’t believe in
I would like to build something
But you’ll never see it happen
And there’s this burning
Like there’s always been
I’ve never been so alone
And I’ve
I’ve never been so alive

And there’s this burning
There is this burning

Shirley Horn - Here’s to Life [listen]

No complaints and no regrets.
I still believe in chasing dreams and placing bets.
But I have learned that all you give is all you get, so give it all you’ve got.
I had my share, I drank my fill, and even though I’m satisfied I’m hungry still
To see what’s down another road, beyond a hill and do it all again.

So here’s to life and all the joy it brings.
Here’s to life the dreamers and their dreams.

Funny how the time just flies.
How love can turn from warm hellos to sad goodbyes
And leave you with the memories you’ve memorized
To keep your winters warm.

There’s no yes in yesterday.
And who knows what tomorrow brings or takes away.
As long as I’m still in the game I want to play
For laughs, for life, for love.

So here’s to life and all the joy it brings.
Here’s to life, the dreamers and their dreams.

May all your storms be weathered,
And all that’s good get better.
Here’s to life, here’s to love, here’s to you.
